Sony Re-Circuits ROBOCOP to 2014, Bumps ELYSIUM to Summer 2013

Sony has announced that they’ve done quite a bit of rearranging with their 2013 and 2014 calendars. Many of their upcoming films, including the remake of ROBOCOP, the sci-fi dystopia, ELYSIUM, have received revised release dates.

ROBOCOP, helmed by Jose Padilha and starring Joel Kinnaman, was set to receive its theatrical release on August 9, 2013 – Neill Blomkamp’s ELYSIUM, starring Matt Damon, Jodie Foster, and Sharlto Copley, will now take that date, and ROBOCOP is set to be moved to Feb. 7, 2014.

In ROBOCOP, the year is 2028 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Their drones are winning American wars around the globe and now they want to bring this technology to the home front. Alex Murphy(Kinnaman) is a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit. After he is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp utilizes their remarkable science of robotics to save Alex’s life. He returns to the streets of his beloved city with amazing new abilities, but with issues a regular man has never had to face before.

In addition, Sony also has stated they will now release CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS 2 on Sept. 27, 2013. Finally, the animated flick PIXELS, based off of a French short film, was removed from the 2014 release calendar entirely. Produced by Happy Madison, it’s still officially in pre-production/development.

I love all sorts of music!”

2012 Summer Olympics Opening Ceremony: A Complete Look

Making for quite the sight to be seen, the 2012 Olympic Summer Games Opening Ceremony was held in London, England on Friday night (July 27).

Taking place at Olympic Stadium, the kickoff to the event that sees 26 sports contested by 10,500 athletes over 17 days of competition drew out royals including Queen Elizabeth II, Prince William, Kate Middleton and Prince Harry, as well as U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama, actress Nicole Kidman and footballer David Beckham – who helmed a speedboat carrying the Olympic flame during the UK festivities.

As for the theme of London’s Opening Ceremony, spectators were treated to a colorful display charting Britain’s history from the start of the modern Games back in 1896 to the present.

With 80,000 people in attendance for the production, director Danny Boyle took on choreographer duties while including segments such as 1,000 drummers marching through a pastoral setting complete with cows, goats and sheep roaming about with farm children.

The complete Opening Ceremony was put together with Boyle trying to remain under his $15 million budget, which falls far below Beijing’s 2008 production that ended up being the most expensive Opening Ceremony ever at a hefty $40 million total cost.

Of his low-cost efforts, Boyle told the AP, “There has to be a modesty. You can’t get grandiose with this job because you are following Beijing.”

With competitors including Kobe Bryant, Maria Sharapova, Usain Bolt and Novak Djokovic also partaking in the traditional walk-through, be sure to check out highlights from the 2012 Olympic Summer Games Opening Ceremony via video clips and pictures below!

Robert Pattinson’s Total Film Summer 2012 Career Update

With his movie “Bel Ami” having just hit theaters and another film titled “Cosmopolis” coming this August, Robert Pattinson was aptly chosen for a feature in the Summer 2012 issue of Total Film magazine.

In the column, the 26-year-old “Twilight” heartthrob talks about all of his upcoming efforts and future plans, which includes a possible Iraqi-based shoot for Jean-Stephane Sauvaire’s “Mission: Blacklist”.

Highlights from Mr Pattinson’s interview are as follows. For more, be sure to pay a visit to Total Film!

On director David Cronenberg guiding him during “Cosmopolis” performance:
“We both started out not really knowing exactly what it was about but knowing it was interesting. I was trying to prepare for it, but the time it felt most right [while filming] was when you didn’t know what you were doing. David had this uncanny sense of seeing when I didn’t know what I was doing and that was always the take that he liked.”

On his anal examination scene:
“David told me that the shot was going to be from between my legs. He knew I was a young actor trying to look like I was willing to do anything for the job. He was like, ‘I want to shoot it… and just cups the frame with your balls at the top.’ I genuinely believed him and had to go to his trailer and say, ‘I dunno know if I can do that…’”

On his next movie:
“I’m doing ‘Mission: Blacklist’ with Jean-Stephane Sauvaire who made ‘Johnny Mad Dog’. Hopefully that’ll shoot in Iraq, which will be fun. Then I’m doing “Rover’ with [Animal Kingdom's] David Michod.”

On what fans can expect from ‘Breaking Dawn – Part 2′:
“It’s one of the funniest ones out of all of them. I think Bill [Condon, director] has really captured the absurdity of it.”
