Box Office: “Taken 2″ Holds Slim Lead on Overachieving “Argo”
Still filling seats after its chart topping theatrical debut one week prior, “Taken 2″ continues to reign at the box office while taking a slim lead to begin the weekend of October 12-14, 2012.
The Olivier Megaton directed crime drama starring Liam Neeson as a retired CIA operative is lined up for an $8 million Friday with early forecasts pointing to a sophomore weekend total of $24.2 million.
Hot on its heels is the Ben Affleck starring/directed thriller “Argo,” as the just-released motion picture about Tony Mendez’s account of the rescue of six U.S. diplomats during the 1979 Iran hostage crisis has higher-than-expected first day sales pegged at $7.5 million with a $22.6 million projected opening weekend.
Filling out the top five at the box office in earmarked earnings are Adam Sandler and Selena Gomez’s animated family comedy “Hotel Transylvania” ($16 million) in third, followed by two newcomers with the Ethan Hawke starring supernatural horror/thriller “Sinister” ($14 million) in fourth and Salma Hayek and Kevin James’ underperforming comic caper “Here Comes the Boom” ($12 million) in fifth.

Justin Timberlake in Talks to Lead “The Last Drop”
Furthering his foray into the acting world, Justin Timberlake is in talks to star in the upcoming dramatic rom-com, “The Last Drop.”
The movie, directed by “Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist” director Peter Sollett, follows an alcoholic food critic who decides to change his life in order to win over the love of his life.
Currently, the 31-year-old singer/actor can be seen in “Trouble with the Curve” alongside Clint Eastwood and Amy Adams.
When not acting or working on music, Justin is busy promoting the new MySpace. After joining on as an investor in 2011, the future Mr. Jessica Biel has gone into full-on marketing mode.
Speaking about the revamp to The Hollywood Reporter, he talked about the new focus, “It’s just bringing the connection that much closer while still making the artist feel comfortable that they can make their art, lock themselves in a room and torture themselves as they do, and still find a way to comfortably connect with their fan base.”

Box Office: “The Possession” Takes Labor Day Lead Over “Lawless”
Starting off with a bang thanks to a crushing performance by “The Avengers” at the box office, the summer 2012 movie season now finds itself coming to close on a less than stellar note.
Faring only slightly better than last weekend’s top grossing total of $13.5 million, “The Possession” is on track to take the Labor Day weekend (August 31-September 3) top spot – as the Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Kyra Sedgwick starring Lionsgate horror picture’s $5.7 million opening day puts it on pace for an estimated four-day total of $20.5 million.
Despite boasting an all-star cast including Shia LaBeouf, Jessica Chastain and Mia Wasikowska, fellow cinema newcomer “Lawless” failed to pique the public’s interest, as well, with the John Hillcoat directed drama turning out a $2.6 million Friday while lined up to finish the holiday weekend at a paltry $12.4 million.
Filling out the top five at the box office in forecasted totals are the Sylvester Stallone , Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jason Statham led action caper “The Expendables 2″ ($12 million), followed by the Tony Gilroy directed action/adventure film “The Bourne Legacy” ($9.5 million) and LAIKA’s 3D stop-motion comedy thriller “ParaNorman” ($10 million).

Box Office: “The Expendables 2″ Takes Slim Lead Over “The Bourne Legacy”
While it doesn’t appear as if the sequel will be able to better its predecessor, “The Expendables 2″ is still on track to steal away the top spot at the box office over the weekend of August 17-19, 2012.
The testosterone filled action caper starring Sylvester Stallone , Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jason Statham pulled in an estimated $11.5 million on Friday with an expected $30 million weekend total being shy of the $34.8 million opening mustered up by the first film.
Bumped down to runner-up status is last weekend’s winner, “The Bourne Legacy,” as the latest installment in the Tony Gilroy directed action/adventure franchise is keeping things interesting thanks to an $11.3 million Friday pegging predicted sophomore earnings at $29 million.
Filling out the top five at the box office in forecasted totals are the newly released LAIKA 3D stop-motion comedy thriller “ParaNorman” ($15.3 million) and the Whitney Houston/Jordin Sparks featured drama “Sparkle” ($15.1 million), followed by Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis’ political comedy “The Campaign” ($13.1 million).
Also of note, the well-received Jennifer Garner and Joel Edgerton helmed Disney drama “The Odd Life of Timothy Green” is lined up for $13 million in ticket sales by Sunday – though it had a two day jumpstart after having been released on Wednesday rather than Friday.

Keira Knightley Secures Jack Ryan Thriller Lead
Landing herself yet another leading role, Keira Knightley has secured a spot in Kenneth Branagh’s currently-untitled Jack Ryan thriller.
Adding to the already A-list roster, the film, the movie co-stars Chris Pine, Kevin Costner and Branagh himself.
According to the flick’s Producer, Mace Neufeld, this Jack Ryan motion pitcure won’t be based on a Tom Clancy novel but instead an original screenplay.
Offering a bit more insight, Neufeld told ComingSoon, “They’re kind of ‘thinking man’s thrillers.’ Jack is referred to as a ‘water-walker’ because of his ability to jump ahead to conclusions. That’s very big in all the Jack Ryan films and that’s how we want to portray him. He’s a teacher. He’s a historian. He’s a linguist. And he’s really smart.”

There’s no doubt her personal life is in utter turmoil as of late, but at least Kristen Stewart has something to look forward to career-wise.
The “Adventureland” actress has reportedly signed on to play the lead role in the forthcoming drama “Lie Down in Darkness.”
Based on the William Styron novel from 1951, the flick will be about a dysfunctional family living in Virginia, and Kristen will play a woman named Peyton Loftis.
Loftis is said to be the psychologically fragile daughter of a troubled couple, so the gig will likely be a new challenge for the “Twilight Saga” star.
