He may not be a movie star, but the prime minister of Qatar will soon be living like one as he is the proud owner of New York City’s most expensive penthouse.
Sheik Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber al-Thani has been revealed as the mystery buyer who paid $100 million for a ultra-luxurious two-story apartment at the top of the One57 condominium across the street from Carnegie Hall, the New York Post reported.

The sheik made his opulent purchase after his bid to spend a whopping $31.5 million on two apartments owned by the late Huguette Clark was turned down by a Fifth Avenue co-op board.
The stunning penthouse duplex he bought instead features a grand salon, a large mezzanine, four fireplaces, floor-to-ceiling windows, at least five bedrooms and motorized window shades. The 10,923 square foot property boasts breathtaking views of the Manhattan skyline and Central Park.
Hamad is also in talks to buy a further four separate, full-floor condos in the 90-story One57 building, which would come to a grand total of $250 million.
With two wives, 15 children, a huge entourage and gun-toting security guards, the billionaire will certainly need all the space when he come to the U.S., and the sheer number of people surrounding him at all times has caused concern among some snooty coop boards.
In addition, his ability to play the “diplomatic immunity” card could restrict a building’s ability to enforce any rules that regular residents are forced to abide by.
